About

What’s the deal?

I’ve been trying/wanting to document my life since about 1990, when I was 20. It started with a custom Hypercard Stack that I used like a journal. I gave each day a rating from 1 to 10 and wrote a few sentences trying to capture the highlights of the day. Much of my motivation was because I wanted yet another reason to sit at my brand new Mac. However, I was also motivated by the thought of having a record of my life - 10, 15 or 20 years down the road it might even be interesting. Well, like many of my blog attempts, it was short lived. I’m a weak writer so my early ‘blah, blah’ blog sucked and was never a documentary. My ‘photo-a-day’ blog was going pretty well until I felt more pressure to make pretty pictures than to capture life. I tried again with ’slices of life’, another photo blog, but the concept didn’t hold my interest.

For now, this is just another attempt at catching a bit of life mostly from my point of view. I’ve admired and been inspired by Ten Years of My Life and other projects like it. This is a bit different, in my experiment, I’m hoping to document life in a series of 10 second (or so) video clips. Most of the site will be from today (January 1, 2006) forward but I will also be digging up and posting a few clips from old 8-mm film, video and DV footage.

Process, Tools, etc.

I’m still working on this but check back - I’ll try to post as much info on the hardware, software and steps I’m using to make my life as easy as possible to capture 10 seconds at a time.
